2-10. Install IPADS in M973 Series Small Utility Support Vehicle (SUSV) Continued
(4) Connect the black lead to the negative (-) battery terminal using a 1/2-inch wrench, figure 2-41.
(5) Reconnect negative battery terminal to negative battery post. Tighten until snug.
(6) Reconnect P42 connector at location indicated in figure 2-41.
(7) Check harness routing to be sure it is not pulled tight in any area.
(8) Allow about 1-foot slack on W116-3 cable and stow behind battery compartment.
(9) Reinstall the left rear seat/battery cover and secure.
(10) Tighten all cable ties.

d. NATO Plug Installation
If the NATO plug will be used to power IPADS, use the following instructions:
(1) Obtain IPADS power cable W116-3 and NATO connector, figure 2-17, from installation kit.
(2) Remove back of connector and terminal bolts, figure 2-17.
(3) Install red-banded lug (wire marked positive) of power cable to positive terminal of connector (center
post).
(4) Install black-banded lug (wire marked negative) of power cable to negative terminal of connector.
(5) Tighten hardware to secure lugs.
(6) Replace back of connector and tighten all screws.
(7) Plug NATO plug into SUSV NATO adapter, figure 2-43 (remove cap from NATO plug).
(8) Plug NATO plug with SUSV NATO adapter into NATO receptacle behind and below the driver seat in
the SUSV.
