2-10. Install IPADS in M973 Series Small Utility Support Vehicle (SUSV) Continued
(6) Using bolts, locknuts, and washers from package labeled "REAR ASSY TRANSMISSION-SIDE
BOLTS" (two 7/16-20X2.0-inch bolts (16), four 7/16-inch washers (17), and two 7/16-inch locknuts
(18)), attach rear rail assembly (2) to existing transmission-side seat belt holes.
(a) Insert two bolts and two washers from rear rail assembly side.
(b) Hand-tighten two locknuts and two washers from inside transmission compartment.
(7) Tighten assembly as follows:
(a) Using crescent wrench on underside of winch mounting bracket rails and 3/4-inch socket on top
side of front rail assembly, securely fasten four bolts and locknuts plus 1/4 turn.
(b) Ensure that top of front rail assembly and top of rear rail assembly are flush.
(c) Using crescent wrench on bolt side and 3/4-inch socket on locknut side, securely fasten bolts and
locknuts attaching front rail assembly and rear rail assembly plus 1/4 turn.
(d) Ensure that top of front rail assembly and top of rear rail assembly are still flush. Adjust as
necessary.
(e) Using 5/8-inch socket, securely fasten bolts attaching rear rail assembly into the existing seat belt
holes on door-side.
(f) Secure rear rail assembly into existing seat belt holes on transmission side.
(1) Use 5/8-inch socket on bolt side and crescent wrench on locknut side.
(2) Securely tighten bolts and locknuts plus 1/4 turn.
(8) Reinstall transmission access cover.
(9) Go to paragraph 2-10i, Installation of support brace and floor plate assembly when shipped
preassembled.
