SECTION II: INSTALLATION OF IPADS INTO HMMWV
2-6. Vehicle
Configuration.
CAUTION
Any vehicle used with IPADS must supply at least 100 amperes at 24 VDC
for IPADS operation. (Generator/Alternator Kit, Part No. 11630593,
HMMWV series vehicles equipped with a generator/alternator rated at 60
amperes. Installation instructions are in TM 9-2320-362-14&P.)
a.
Identify which kit components are used with each vehicle. IPADS operators install the components.
b.
The installation kit components required for using IPADS in the M1097 (Truck, Utility: Heavy Variant,
4 x 4,) M1123 (Truck, Utility: Heavy Variant, 10,300 GVW, 4 x 4) and M998 (Truck, Utility: Cargo/Troop
Carrier, 1-1/4 Ton, 4 x 4) series High Mobility Multipurpose-Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) are listed and
described in figure 1-6. There are differences in vehicle preparation and IPADS floor plate installation for
the HMMWV variants.

If not installed, operators must install batteries in the BCU, paragraph 2-4.

Tools required for installation are in the IPADS basic issue items shown in figure 1-5.

High-Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle
(HMMWV)
NOTE
Installation differences between the HMMWV variants are noted in the
following procedures.
a.
Prepare HMMWV for Installation.
If a cargo bulkhead is installed immediately behind the driver and commander's seats, remove as follows:
(1) Using the 3/4-inch combination wrench, remove two bolts securing cargo bulkhead to the vehicle bed.
(2) Use l/2-inch socket and open-end wrenches; remove two bolts from vehicle side pillars.
(3) After removing bulkhead, install two bolts in vehicle side pillars. Retain vehicle bed bolts for
installation.
(4) Store cargo bulkhead and two bolts.
(5) If vehicle is equipped with two l/2-inch thick wooden noise abatement plates located between the two
front seats and two rear seats, remove and store with associated hardware. Remove fire extinguisher
and bracket from forward plate and reinstall on deck between two front seats where it had previously
been mounted.
