3-30. Map Display.
WARNING
To avoid the risk of driving accidents, the driver's attention must at all times be
focused on safe driving. Prolonged diversion of driver's attention to the CDU
screen while driving should be avoided.
NOTE
IPADS provides a digital map display capability to aid in navigation and provide
a visual display of point locations. Map display is not required to conduct
survey operations.
If a digital map of the local area is loaded in CDU memory, IPADS will display it after the IPADS has been
initialized, paragraph 3-12f. A green cross identifies IPADS current position on the map. Icons identify
locations of points on the map according to the point filter type. Operator may zoom in or out on map and
change map position on the screen. Map operations are described in the following subparagraphs:
(1) Press F6-MAP on MENU or NAVIGATION AID page to display MAP page. If no map data are loaded
covering the current IPADS location, MAP and INFO: MAP NOT OPEN; SURVEY FUNCTIONS
FULLY AVAILABLE are displayed. If map data are available, a map will be displayed centered on
current IPADS location. Function key line shows F1-MANUAL, F2-MARK, F3-UPDT, F4-ZUPT,
F5-NAV or F5-NAV AID, F6-CENTER, F7-POINTS, F8-STATUS, and F9-MENU.
(2) Press FNC (minus) to zoom out (reduce zoom). Press FNC + (plus) to zoom in (increase zoom). Third
field on mode line will show zoom level for a few seconds and then reverts to vehicle type.

NOTE
When map is centered, IPADS current position remains centered and map
moves in response to vehicle motion. When map is not centered, map remains
stationary and current position icon moves in response to vehicle motion.
