3-17. Theodolite Position Update.
Perform the following steps to update and adjust UTM or Geodetic position and altitude by selecting a point
from IPADS database, entering coordinates for a new point, or searching for a point name:
NOTE
Procedures for updating UTM or geodetic coordinates are similar. UTM
will be used in the examples.
Because IPADS is offset from the update SCP marker, CURRENT PLUMB
DATA coordinates will differ from update SCP coordinates when update is
completed.
a.
Stop vehicle close to update SCP marker.
b.
Exit vehicle and initiate a ZUPT, paragraph 3-14, Table 3-4.
c.
Set up theodolite over SCP marker and achieve auto-reflection, paragraph 3-24(a).
d.
Vehicle operator becomes the recorder for IPADS operator.
e.
Measure and record vertical angle and offset distance, paragraph 3-24, subparagraphs b and d.
f.
Verify position format is set to format of update coordinates, paragraph 3-11e(3), and angle format is set to
format of theodolite, paragraph 3-11e(4).
g.
From MENU, MAP or NAVIGATION AID page, press F3. UPDATE page is displayed with PRESS F1
FOR PLUMB BOB; F2 FOR THEODOLITE on information line and F1-UPDT-PB, F2-UPDT- , and
F9-EXIT on function key line.
h.
Press F2. UPDATE: THEODOLITE: page is displayed with cursor box on DISTANCE TO PRISM field.
Function key line shows F9-EXIT.
i.
Enter distance to prism within the range of 1 to 3500 meters and press ENTER. Cursor box moves to
VERT ANGLE TO PRISM field.
