3-4. General Use of CDU.
a.
The CDU is the main interface between the operator and IPADS. After system turn on, paragraph 3-6, the
CDU display interactive area shows MENU, figure 3-6. This chapter describes operations that involve
using the CDU keyboard and observing information displayed on the CDU display. Displayed information
is organized in different "pages". All pages share a general format that includes the following lines and
areas:
(1) Mode line contains fields reserved for indicators, figure 3-4.
(2) Status area (right side of page) contains fields reserved for current data, figure 3-4.
(3) Function key legend (bottom of page) identifies the active function keys (F1 through F9), table 3-2.
(4) Interactive area (left side of page) displays information that is based on the operation being performed.
Figure 3-6 shows the interactive area of
the MENU.

b. All pages provide the following common functionality:
(1) Information line provides instructions for user action or information on an operation that was
performed, except when map is displayed.
(2) A cursor box surrounds an active field, figure 3-6.
(3) Navigation on a page Pressing ↑ or ↓ moves the cursor box through the active user entry fields on
the page.
(4) Pressing FNC DEL clears the active data entry field.
(5) Data fields have fixed formats with decimal points and delimiters in fixed locations.
(6) Characters enter a field from the right.
(7)
(backspace) to delete the last character entered.
