3-22. Marking Position and Altitude Using Plumb Bob.
The following procedure establishes position and altitude coordinates of a point:
a.
Maneuver ground vehicle or land helicopter to place plumb bob over point to be established.
b.
Set ground vehicle's parking brake.
c.
When vehicle or helicopter is stationary, command a ZUPT if IPADS remains in NAVIGATION mode.
d.
Extend plumb bob arm out vehicle door.
e.
Hang plumb bob.
f.
Press F2. SYSTEM STATUS & MESSAGES will show MARK WAIT x.x SECONDS.
g.
At mark completion, MARK page shows data for the marked point with cursor box on PNT NAME field
and INFO: MARK COMPLETE; PRESS ENTER TO EDIT POINT NAME is displayed. Function key
line shows F9-EXIT.
h.
Press ENTER to change point name. POINT EDITOR page is displayed with data for the mark. Function
key line shows F2-USE ALL and F9-EXIT.
CAUTION
AFATDS truncates SCP names to eight characters. If SCP data will be sent to
AFATDS, keep SCP names to eight or fewer characters. See CAUTION in
i.
Press FNC DEL to clear PNT NAME field, enter new name, and press ENTER. Cursor box moves to
DESCRIPTION field.

If desired, enter a point description up to 34 characters long.
k.
Press F2 to accept the name and description changes. MARK page is displayed with new name. Record
data.
l.
Set survey marker under plumb bob.
m. Stow plumb bob and arm.
n.
Set and mark witness stake.
o.
Press F9 to return to MENU, MAP, or NAVIGATION AID page.
p.
Proceed to next point.
3-23. Marking 2-Position Azimuth Using Plumb Bob.
The following procedure establishes position and altitude coordinates of a point and azimuth of an OL.
NOTE
IPADS will NOT adjust azimuth.
Vehicle must be able to travel quickly between both ends of the OL, 100 to
1000 meters long. If distance between OS and EOL is less than 100 meters
or travel time exceeds 60 seconds, the accuracy of the computed azimuth
may be degraded and PAE code will show E in azimuth location, meaning
there is a probable error in azimuth.
