2-10. Install IPADS in M973 Series Small Utility Support Vehicle (SUSV) Continued
(a) Assemble rear rail assembly (2) and front rail assembly (1) using two 1/2-20X3-1/2-inch hex head
screws (7), four 1/2-inch washers (9), and two 1/2-20-inch locknuts (10) (front to rear assembly
bolts), figure 2-37.
(b) Set the assembled pieces on top of the winch mounting brackets.
(c) Using 5/8-inch wrench, attach the rear rail assembly (2) to the seat belt-threaded holes nearest to
the door using two 7/16-20X1-1/2-inch screws (15) and two 7/16-inch washers (17) (rear
assembly left bolts).
(d) Using 5/8-inch wrench, attach the rear rail assembly (2) to the seat belt-threaded holes nearest to
the transmission using two 7/16-20X2-1/2-inch screws (16), four 7/16-inch washers (17), and two
7/16-20-inch locknuts (18) (rear assembly right bolts).
(e) Make sure the front rail assembly (1) is flush with the winch mounting bars.
(f) Use a pen to mark the four holes that will be drilled in the winch mounting brackets.
(g) Remove the front rail assembly (1) prior to drilling.
(h) Mark center of the four holes drawn in step 6 using a center punch.
(i) Drill the pilot holes using 5/16-inch drill bit.
(j) Drill the holes again using a 9/16-inch drill bit.
WARNING
The newly drilled holes contain sharp burrs. Wear gloves to prevent injury.
(k) Deburr holes.
(l) Proceed to step (5).
(5) Removal of Rear Passenger-side Seat and Toolbox.
CAUTION
Toolbox may contain stowed items. Use caution when removing from vehicle.
(a) Slide seat forward until end of seat/storage toolbox clears rear wall.
(b) Using two persons, lift and remove seat from vehicle.
(c) Stow seat and toolbox in rear car. Secure with belt assembly to tie-down points in floor well.
(6) Removal of Transmission Access Cover.
(a) Cover extends half-length of front car.
(b) Unlatch fasteners at locations over its length.
(c) Remove cover and set aside on driver side of vehicle for later reinstallation.
