NOTE
This procedure is limited to temporary repair of small punctures and breaks in the skin. Refer to FM 43-2
for permanent repairs.
Repair.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to remove fragments of skin by bending or pulling outward.
1.
Push broken edges of skin (1) into puncture (2).
2.
Remove loose fragments of foam (3).
3.
Clean area around puncture with dampened cloth (Appendix E, item 7).
4.
Inject silicone sealant into puncture until it has filled hole and is 1/8 in. (3.2mm) above surface of skin.
5.
Apply sealant to cracks leading to puncture.
6.
Cut strips of tape (4) (Appendix E, Item 17) and apply lightly. For a good repair, overlap tape strips 1/4 in.
(6.4mm), Extend tape strips 1-1/2 in. (38.1mm) beyond sealant.
7.
Rub tape (4) into place.
8.
Clean repaired area of excess sealant.
