( 2 ) Y - D r i v e .
The negative’s movement transverse to the tilt axis is
c o n t r o l l e d b y t h e Y - d r i v e.
The primary driving member of this movement is the Y -
drive spindle which is actuated through miter gears by cranking the Y-drive knob. As
t h e Y - d r i v e s p i n d l e r o t a t e s,
i t i s t h r e a d e d e i t h e r i n o r o u t o f a s t a t i o n a r y n ut
secured in the nut adapter.
Since the Y-drive members are all attached to the lamphouse, the lamphouse is moved
with the Y-drive spindle by sliding through the bushing supports on the Y - slide
s h a f t s .
The film stage is attached to the lamphouse and moves with it.
