a. Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS), Table 2-2, are to be done to be sure the
s u r v e y i n g i n s t r u m e n t i s r e a d y t o u s e a t a l l t i m e s . T h e s e c h e c k s a n d s e r v i c e s h e l p y o u f i n d a n d f ix
defects before the surveying instrument is damaged or fails.
b. Item numbers in the first column of Table 2-2 are the order in which things are to be done. Column
two Interval lists when to do them.
c. If minor defects are found when the surveying instrument is operating, take notes on what they
are. Fix them, or have them fixed after you have stopped operating the surveying instrument.
N O TE
While the surveying instrument is operating, if any defect develops that you
think will damage the surveying instrument, stop operation at once.
