To remove and install the same item when required to perform
service or other maintenance functions.
Install may be the act of emplacing,
seating, or fixing into position a spare, repair part, or module (component or
assembly) in a manner to allow the proper functioning of an equipment or system.

Replace.
To remove an unserviceable item and install a serviceable
c o u n t e r p a r t i n i t s p l a c e.
Replace is authorized by the MAC and is shown as the 3d
position code of the SMR code.
Repair.

t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g 2,
r e m o v a l / i n s t a l l a t i o n ,
and disassembly/assembly3 procedures, and
m a i n t e n a n c e a c t i o n s4 to identify troubles and restore serviceability to an item by
c o r r e c t i n g s p e c i f i c d a m a g e , f a u l t , m a l f u n c t i o n , o r f a i l u r e i n a p a r t , s u b a s s e m b l y,
module (component or assembly), end item or system.

Overhaul.
That maintenance effort (service/action) prescribed to restore an
item to a completely serviceable/operational condition as required by maintenance
standards in appropriate technical publications (i.e., DMWR).
Overhaul is normally
the highest degree of maintenance performed by the Army. Overhaul
return an item to like new condition.
k.
Rebuild.
Consists of those services/actions necessary for t
unserviceable equipment to a like new condition in accordance with
f a c t u r i n g s t a n d a r d s.
Rebuild is the highest degree of material ma
applied to Army equipment.
The rebuild operation includes the act
to zero those age measurements (hours/miles, etc.) considered in cl
equipment/components.
